The Reasons That Jeep Cherokees Last Forever

Jeep_Cherokee_front_(2008)

As a leading car manufacturer, few brands are quite as associated with reliability and strength as Jeep. And it’s no secret why: The Jeep brand earned its reputation early on in difficult environments. In fact, Jeep was the first brand of off-road vehicle ever produced, dating to before world-famous sport-utility companies like Land Rover, and coming into use as a military vehicle during the Second World War. Jeep fans have tapped into this strong and reliable make of automobile, knowing that if the car company was good enough for the Allies, then it is surely good enough for them.

Strong Origins, Consistent Quality
It’s this attention to care by the company’s designers, along with the automobile’s tough and minimal exterior and an ability to perform in even the most difficult situations, that has made Jeep a living legend among car aficionados. Its “XJ” or “Cherokee” model is perhaps the company’s most famous creation and is especially known for creating the trend towards the use of Sports Utility Vehicles in private life.

Creating a Classic
Essentially the prototype for nearly all the SUVs we see on the road today, Cherokees were often seen as a long-term investment for buyers who wanted a car that would last forever. And those customers were right: The Cherokee model has not lagged in popularity since its introduction.

How the Cherokee Became the Jeep Mainstay
In a way, this timeless quality of the Cherokees even backfired on Jeep, who had trouble marketing new styles of car because sales of the older Cherokees remained too consistent to introduce new designs to buyers. For example, Jeep had to keep creating XJs even while it was ostensibly focusing on its new Grand Cherokee models; customer demand was so high for the original Cherokees that Jeep kept producing the old-fashioned looks on its newer cars. The situation would be a bit like if Volkswagen had difficulty selling its rebranded Beetles because the original Beetles were competing for market space with their new replacements.

This attention to care that Jeep is known for is just one of the reasons that the Jeep Cherokee model is one of the best-kept secrets in the auto world. Known for lasting forever, these remarkable cars not only have the look and feel of an automobile that can make it through any terrain, they are built to “practice what they preach,” so to speak. Indeed, anyone who has taken a Jeep Cherokee off-road knows how tough these vehicles still are.
